About this photo:

This is still one more spider photographed in the greenhouse at Hornsby Bend. Note the web surrounding the leaf in this photo. The spider may be constructing a place to hide her eggs. The leaf was located next to the water where water hyacinths are growing in the greenhouse. There are many "fishing" spiders in this area, and some may be this species. The ID is far from certain, as the picture on Plate 15 in Spiders and Scorpions of Texas shows a much darker spider than this one. However the text says that there is considerable variation in the color. The habitat and behavior is appropriate for this species. Note the arrangement of the eyes, barely discernible without magnifying the photo. The text says that the eight eyes are arranged in two rows that may be strongly recurved, as in this photo.
