Jim is positively nuts about arachanae. He has always liked spiders, but until the advent of digital photography, he never thought about trying to take pictures of them. Then, one day in September, 2002,he and Linda were birding at Hornsby Bend when we saw a large spider in its web at the birding blind, and took a picture, specifically, this picture:
We were naturally pleased with this photo of a Black and Yellow Orb Weaver, Argiope aurantia. A quick search of the web will show you how often this particular spider is photographed. It seems to be everyone's first spider photo. Shortly thereafter, we two nice photos: one of a Bold Jumping Spider, Phiddipus audax,the other of a Neoscona oaxacaensis in the same area.
Well, that persuaded Jim that we needed a better camera. It took some doing, but eventually, Linda agreed. Then Jim set about photographing every spider he could find. The results are the presentations below:
