2020 Annual Report: Oops!

“You want to hear God laugh?
Tell her your plans! ”
— Yiddish Proverb [Slightly modified]

A change this year. We have Linda's "Executive Summary" as part of the main page. Jim's wordy report on the year is relegated to a PDF file. Trigger warning: If you are religious, don't like cannabis, do like Trump, or think COVID-19 is either a hoax or overblown, you may find some of Jim's report unsettling.

To read the report, in Chrome for example, use this link. Jim's Longer Report.

If that doesn't work, you may download it by using this link instead.

As usual, we have included our traditional “Big Tree” pnoto. There is something different this year. Can you see it? We also have some cartoons appropriate to the year.

Linda's Thoughts on the Year

Greetings to all and best wishes for 2021!

Our family has been lucky, blessed to have weathered this year with good health and financial resources. Jim and I are fortunate to have close contact with Ron, Claire, Scarlet and Nico and infrequent, socially distant, contact with Charles, Amy, Kai and Kiera. on the back deck of their house in El Cerrito. During one of the relaxation of "stay-at-home" orders, we met at Crissy Fields in San Francisco and nearby Fort Point over the Thanksgiving weekend.

We spent most of the year at Purple Haze, Claire and Ron's "weekend" home near Philo, CA. The nearest neighbors, Pete and Sophie Stoddard and their kids, Wilson and Elena, became our Pod people after a suitable period of quanantine. Their kids are a bit younger than Scarlet and Nico, but they get on well.

We learned how to Zoom with friends and borrow digital books from the library. Much of our birding this year was virtual, online presentations by various tour companies we have traveled with in the past. We learned how to stream movies and binge watch series on our TV.

As we write this, we are on tenterhooks waiting for January 20th. The riot and assault on the Capitol shocked us, though we were not surprised. We hope that the remaining days of the Trump administration pass quickly without further violence.

Ever optimistic, we have signed up for a trip to Bolivia in September, 2021. We had planned to visit there in 2020, but obviously that didn't happen.

On to 2021

Hope you have a wonderful 2021. Drop us a line and let us know if you like this report.

About the Quote

Each year, we try to include a quotation that says something relevant to the year. This year, we chose a Yiddish proverb that seems very apropos.

There are several variations and attributions.
