Hargrove Annual Report 2003: Claire | |||||||||||||
Claire moved into a slightly larger apartment for her last year in the Big Apple, a change much appreciated when we worked on Thanksgiving dinner. With her time running out, she decided she needed to see all the things in New York that she hasn't gotten around to, such as Broadway plays. Next year, she moves to Los Angeles for year-long fellowship in Pediatric anesthesiology.
Even though any New Yorker will tell you that you don't need to leave the confines of the five boroughs to experience all the world has to offer, Claire continues to hopscotch around the planet whenever she has the chance. She is particularly fond of abandoning New York during the coldest part of the year in favor of more clement climes in the southern hemisphere. 2003 found her in Brazil in January and Mexico in April. Job interviews took her to Denver and Houston as well as LA.
Claire's college roommate, Jill Salomon, married John Donaty in San Antonio in April. For reasons that were never fully explicated, the event required pre-nuptial trips to Las Vegas and Miami . Jim and Linda joined the festivities at a late date, arriving in San Antonio the Friday before the Sunday finale. With time on our hands, we ambled over to the Folk Festival, where Jim tried his hand at the musical saw to great amusement. Saturday night we had a fabulous party quaintly termed the “rehearsal dinner,” though it involved about 100 people. The wedding, a traditional Orthodox Jewish ceremony, took place on Sunday, followed by a sumptuous feast and dance.
Claire stayed in Austin through the next weekend, allowing us to celebrate Dama Lil's 87 th birthday and meet Hargrove family members at Granny's favorite country restaurant, Purcell's, in Brenham.
