This is one of the best photos in my collection, and one reason why I still keep trying to get good shots. This was taken on September 11, 2002 in the greenhouse at Hornsby Bend. That is a treasure trove of spiders, source of many of my best shots. Linda spotted this spider and oblingly held the leaf while I took the picture. The spider was hiding on the underside of the leaf, not in a web. Later, I captured a shot of the same species hanging in a web in the greenhouse. I had trouble identifying this spider, finally calling on help from the web. I posted a query on the usenet newsgroup sci.bio.entomology.misc, and got the answer within hours.

Identification: See 21U, page 83 in Spiders and Scorpions of Texas. This spider is not shown on any of the plates in that book, but the description of the herringbone pattern is enough for me.
