Archaearanea species, probably tepidariourum, the common house spider.

About this photo:

Taken right outside our sun room, using a new closeup macro lens. This is probably Archaearanea tepidariourum, the common house spider, though other Archaearanea species are possible.

I had tried many times to get a decent photo of this small spider, but had to wait until I had a close-up macro lens. The body of the spider is about 5-6 mm in size. To the naked eye, it appears as a brown blob.

According to Jackman, this is "probably the spider most often observed by humans in the United States." It is responsible for the cobwebs you see around the house.

Identification/Date: See p. 52 in Field Guide to Spiders and Scorpions of Texas.
