Hargrove Annual Report 2003: Spider | |||||||||||||
Crab Spider (Misumenops sp.)
About this photo:Jim went out to get the mail and noticed a small spider on the handle of the mailbox. Using his trusty Swiss Army Knife, he coaxed the spider onto the top of the handle, where he took this photo. This is a crab spider, which usually hides on a flower and waits for an insect to come along. It grabs the insect with the two long front legs and consumes it. Identifying this to a particular species would probably require microscopic examination. |
