About this photo:This is yet another spider photographed in the greenhouse of Hornsby Bend. I was serving as mentor for the Fourth Grade class from Hornsby/Del Valle Elementary School. We saw many of these spiders in the foliage near the water where water hyanciths were growing. Most of the larger spiders were carrying a web sac, as this one is. The picture in Spiders & Scorpions of Texas (See plate 14) looks very much like this spider. Unfortunately for identification purposes, there are two pictures that both appear very similar to this spider. One is labeled as rabida, but the other one is simply Rabidosa sp. The second picture looks as it it could have been taken in the HB greenhouse. I think this picture is better than the one in the book, but... |
