Hargrove Annual Report 2003: Spider
Neoscona crucifera in Annapolis, August 30, 2003 |
||
About this photo:There were a couple of these spiders around Charles and Amy's house in Maryland. (On the outside!) The easiest one to see built a nest every night inside a window by the dining room. However, all attempts to get a photograph through the glass were unsuccessful. We tried opening the window, of course, but then the spider scurried for safety before I could get a shot. Finally, Charles pointed out a web outside by the back door. I was able to capture this image. Some people think this is the best spider photo in the collection. |

Identification: This spider doesn't show up in Texas, so I had to consult the Golden Guide to Spiders and Their Kin. On p. 59, I found Neoscona crucifera and knew I had the ID. Notice the plain image of a cross on the carapace.
