These beautiful birds were very common around the Chan Chich lodge, so much so that we were able to get this great picture without using a long lens. Previously, we had seen this species in Costa Rica, but only the drab colored female. It was quite a treat to get lots of great views of the males.

The bird is eating a berry; that's not part of his beak.
