About this photo:We drive past the sign for this state park every time we travel from Austin to Houston or back. This time, we decided to stop. We saw a snake eating a frog (alas, no photo) and many wildflowers. This Alophia drummondii is a member of the iris family and seems to lack a common name. One of the many drummondii in Texas, it is named for a 19th century botanist, Thomas Drummond, who traveled around Texas in 1840 collecting plant specimens to take back to England. |
