2018 Annual Report: Charles and Amy

Charles and Amy Jobs

Charles changed jobs at the beginning of 2018. He is now a children's librarian at the Kensington Branch of the Contra Costa Library system. His commute has shrunk from an hour each way to about 6 minutes each way. Although he enjoyed his time at Rio Vista, it's impossible to argue with the commute. Also, the kids can finally come to some of the programs that he arranges at the library.

Amy continues at her job as a nurse-midwife for Kaiser Permanente. Although she is only .6 time she seems to work a lot. She also was the primary force behind the new house remodel which made their bedroom into a master suite with a new bathroom, walk-in closet and a giant bedroom with a window seat and built-in bookshelves (the last was Charles' favorite bit). Also, they got a new deck and hot tub. It's a huge improvement, and they can't think of much else to do to the house so they are probably set for quite awhile.

Big Trips

The big family trip of the year was a trip that took a pitstop in Texas to see some friends and then a week on the Cayman Aggressor, a liveaboard dive boat. Both Kai and Kiera earned Junior Open Water Certification, which allows them to dive to a maximum of 40 feet. They had a great time and are ready to go again.

The kids, Amy, and Amy's mother Marilyn also took a trip to Seattle and then a train trip to Glacier National Park while there are still some glaciers left. Charles had to work. The kids got reputations for spotting wildlife. Not a surprise. Their highlight was a black bear.

More Musical Happenings

Amy also sings with the Contra Coastal Chorale. This year, we had a conflict between the Chorale's Christmas concert and recitals by K&K. At Amy's suggestion, we went to hear the kids.
